What is Power Play mode and how does it work?
Power Play is an optional Thrillify event mode that adds new strategic elements to your Event in the form of powers that players can activate. As players complete challenges, they earn Power Points that charge their Power Play meter. When that meter reaches a full charge, they can activate Power Play and pick 1 of 3 randomly offered powers.
Each offered power also comes with a random rarity. Higher rarities make a power stronger by increasing its point value, duration, number of uses, or some other effect.

How players earn Power Points
When Power Play is enabled for an event, completing challenges adds Power Points to your meter. Once you’ve built up 100 Power Points, you’ve earned the ability to pick one power.
A few things to keep in mind:
- Power Points are earned as you play through the event.
- Organizers can customize how many Power Points each completed challenge gives players.
- Players can fill their meter multiple times by continuing to earn Power Points after reaching 100.
How choosing a power works
Once your meter is full, you can open Power Play and choose from three random power cards. You’ll only pick one of them, so there’s always a bit of strategy involved.
Depending on how the event is configured, the offered powers may include:
- Paragon for instant bonus points
- Oracle for help on multiple choice trivia
- Pathfinder for GPS challenge direction hints
- Duel for competitive bonus rounds
- Attack to remove points from another team
- Shield to help defend your team from attacks
Not every event will use every power. Event organizers can enable or disable powers individually, and they can customize how each power works at different rarities. Customization is optional, event organizers can simply enable Power Play mode and use the default settings if they prefer.
What rarity means
Every power comes in a rarity such as:
- Basic
- Rare
- Epic
- Legendary
Rarity usually changes how strong the power is. For example, a rarer power might give more points, last longer, or provide more uses.
Important things to know
- Power Play only appears in events where the organizer has enabled it.
- Power choices are random, so you may not see the same choices every time.
- Some powers affect only you, while others affect your whole team or other teams.
- Some powers work only on specific challenge types, like trivia or GPS challenges.
- A power like Shield is only useful if a power like Attack is also enabled.
