Introducing Power Play: Add Powers and New Strategic Gameplay to Your Thrillify Events

Scavenger hunts and challenge events are already a blast, but what if completing challenges also unlocked special powers you could use to gain an edge, help your team, or mess with the competition?
That’s exactly what Power Play does. It’s a new optional game mode in Thrillify that layers strategy and gamification on top of your events, giving players meaningful choices beyond just racing to complete challenges.
What Is Power Play?
Power Play is an event mode that organizers can enable in any Thrillify event. When it’s turned on, completing challenges does more than just earn you points on the leaderboard. Every challenge you complete also fills up your Power Play meter with Power Points.
Once you’ve built up 100 Power Points, you can activate Power Play and choose 1 of 3 randomly offered powers. Each power comes with a random rarity (Basic, Rare, Epic, or Legendary) that determines how strong that power is.

The result is a layer of decision-making and team collaboration that rewards active players and keeps the competition unpredictable. Do you take the safe points now, or gamble on a power that could pay off bigger down the line?
The Six Powers
Power Play currently includes six unique powers, each with a different purpose. Not every event has to use all six. Organizers pick exactly which powers fit the tone of their event.
Paragon — Instant Bonus Points

The simplest and most reliable power. Activate Paragon and you get an immediate burst of bonus points, no strings attached. Great when you’re neck and neck on the leaderboard and want guaranteed value.
Oracle — Trivia Assistance

Oracle removes incorrect answers from upcoming multiple choice trivia challenges, improving your odds. The rarity determines how many challenges are affected and how many wrong answers are eliminated. If your event is heavy on trivia, Oracle can be a game-changer.
Pathfinder — GPS Direction Hints

Stuck searching for a GPS check-in location? Pathfinder reveals the general compass direction to the target, so you’re not wandering aimlessly. Perfect for events that use location-based challenges where finding the spot is half the battle.
Duel — Competitive Bonus Rounds

Duel kicks off a timed head-to-head window between your team and other competitors. Whichever side earns the most points during the duel wins a bonus. It rewards momentum. If your team is on a roll knocking out challenges, this is the power to activate.
Attack — Remove Points from Rivals

Attack lets you target another team and subtract points from their score. When the leaderboard is tight, bringing someone else down can be just as effective as building yourself up. Just know that if they have a Shield up, your attack might not land at full strength.
Shield — Defend Against Attacks

Shield protects your team from incoming Attacks by blocking a percentage of the damage. Higher rarity Shields block more. But every time a Shield absorbs an Attack, there’s a chance it breaks, so you can’t rely on one Shield forever. The defensive counterpart to Attack, and essential in competitive events where players are going after each other.
Rarity Makes Every Pick Interesting
Every power you’re offered comes with a random rarity: Basic, Rare, Epic, or Legendary. Rarity changes how strong the power is. A Legendary Paragon gives way more points than a Basic one, and a Legendary Shield blocks more damage with a lower chance of breaking.
This means your three choices are never just about which power you want. You’re also weighing the rarity of each option. Sometimes a Legendary Duel is worth the risk over a Basic Paragon. Sometimes it’s not. That tension is what makes Power Play feel strategic.
Built for All Kinds of Events
Power Play isn’t one-size-fits-all. Event organizers have full control over how it works:
- Choose which powers are available. Running a casual team-building event? Keep it lighthearted with only supportive powers like Paragon and Oracle. Running a cutthroat competition? Turn on Attack and Shield and let the chaos unfold.
- Control how fast players earn powers. Adjust how many Power Points each challenge awards to tune whether powers show up every few challenges or are a rare strategic moment.
- Customize rarity settings per power. Fine-tune what each rarity level does for every individual power, from point values to durations to shield break chances.
Or skip the customization entirely and just flip Power Play on — the defaults work great out of the box.
Why Power Play?
Power Play was born from direct user feedback, but it’s evolved into something more: a new way to experience our events. By introducing a layer of strategy and tactical powers, we’re transforming how you approach challenges and opening up exciting new avenues for teamwork.
It turns “who can complete the most challenges” into “who can complete challenges and make the best decisions along the way.” That added dimension is especially great for:
- Corporate team-building events that want more gamification and engagement
- Competitive scavenger hunts where teams need more than just speed to win
- Recurring events where Power Play keeps things fresh between sessions
- Convention and festival events where a strategy layer adds replay value
