  1. Level 1 asks teams to solve a clue and check in at a downtown fountain.
  2. Once they check in, Level 2 unlocks photo prompts, trivia, and observation challenges about the fountain plaza.

Choose the Right Radius

If the radius is too small, players may be standing in the right place and still fail the check-in because of normal GPS drift. If the radius is too large, the challenge may complete before they really find the destination.

If your event includes tourists, new employees, or out-of-town guests, assume they may not know the area as well as you do.

It also helps to think about how teams will move between stops. A great clue path has a rhythm to it. Mix longer walks with shorter hops. Avoid sending teams back and forth across the same area unless that is part of the strategy. Give players a reason to notice the journey, not just sprint to the next pin.

Before the event, test your GPS challenges with a real phone if you can. Stand where you expect players to stand, tap the check-in, and make sure the radius feels fair.


Add Pathfinder for a Hint Without Giving Everything Away

If you enable Thrillify’s optional Power Play mode, GPS challenges can get another layer of strategy.

In Power Play, players earn Power Points when they complete challenges. One of the powers they can activate is Pathfinder, which helps with GPS Location challenges by telling players which direction the GPS target is from their current location.

That is a nice balance for clue-based scavenger hunts. Pathfinder does not hand players the answer, draw a route, or complete the challenge for them. It gives them a direction, which can be just enough to get unstuck.

This is useful when:
